The principle of the BOD automatic monitor is that a mixture of water sample, potassium dichromate digestion solution, silver sulfate solution, and mercury sulfate solution is heated to 165°C. The color will change after dichromate ions oxidize the organic matter in the solution, and the analyzer detects This color change is converted into a COD value and output.
