Working Principle:


The conductor is used to introduce lightning into the ground, thus protecting buildings and people from lightning strikes. When a lightning cloud forms, the charges in the cloud separate, creating positive and negative charges. When the potential difference between the charges in the cloud and the charges on the ground reaches a certain level, a discharge, or lightning, occurs. Lightning rods direct lightning into the ground by mounting a conductor (e.g., copper rod, copper tape, etc.) on top of a building or other high place. This avoids the accumulation of electric charge on the building and reduces the possibility of lightning strikes.
