Lidar is a laser beam emitted into the atmosphere, using atmospheric molecules or atmospheric aerosol and laser interaction (scattering and absorption) to calculate atmospheric parameters. Because of its good directivity, short wavelength (micron wave) and narrow pulse width, photodetectors (photomultiplier tube, single photon detector, etc.) have high sensitivity and other characteristics, it can detect atmospheric parameters with high precision and high spatio-temporal resolution. Because of its high precision, high spatiotemporal resolution and continuous monitoring, LiDAR has developed rapidly in the detection of atmospheric aerosols, clouds, atmospheric pollutants, atmospheric temperature and wind speed.

The portable laser cloud detection radar is an intelligent device which can monitor the cloud base height, cloud thickness and solid target distance and display the results in real time. It can be a single measurement manually or an automatic continuous operation. This device can measure the height of the cloud base or the distance of solid objects vertically and inclinately. Small size, light weight, not limited by the space conditions of the distribution station, flexible measurement and use. The device has a built-in lithium battery, which can display the observed data in real time to the LCD screen, and synchronously stored in the device, which is convenient for later reading and data analysis. Ergonomic design, can be held for temporary observation, and can be mounted on a tripod for long-term continuous observation.
