As a result of rapid industrialisation, the problem of air pollution is becoming more serious. According to the definition of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), air pollution is a phenomenon in which certain substances are introduced into the atmosphere as a result of human activities or natural processes in sufficient concentrations and for a sufficient period of time to have a consequent negative impact on human comfort, health conditions and the environment. In simple terms, a substance is considered an air pollutant when its quantity, nature and duration of existence are sufficient to have an impact on human beings and other living beings and belongings. The six key indicators of air quality standards include sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), respirable particulate matter (PM10), ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
